Guide
Choosing the best Pals for your base
A base runs on its Pals. Each species is good at certain jobs and useless at others, and the gap between a level 1 and a high-level worker is huge. Here's how work suitability works, what each job does, and which Pals are worth a slot.
How work suitability works
Every Pal has one or more work suitabilities, each with a level. A Pal will only take jobs it's suited for, and a higher level means it works faster. In Palworld 1.0 levels go up to 8. Some stations also need a minimum level before a Pal can use them at all. When you assign Pals to a base, they automatically pick up whatever jobs match their suitabilities.
Base slots are limited, so it's worth filling them with Pals that cover several jobs at high levels instead of one-trick specialists. Also keep an eye on the food stat on each Pal's page. Bigger workers eat more, which matters for a large base.
Every job, and who does it best
Here's what each job is for and the highest-level workers for it. The full ranked lists are on the Work & Types page, and you can filter the Paldeck by job and minimum level.
- Kindling: Fuels anything that needs fire: cooking stations, furnaces and other heat-based crafting. Top workers: Renjishi (Lv 8), Jormuntide Ignis (Lv 7), Flaracle (Lv 7).
- Watering: Waters planted crops so they keep growing, and powers stations that need water. Top workers: Shaolong (Lv 8), Jormuntide (Lv 7), Neptilius (Lv 7).
- Planting: Sows seeds in plantations. Pair it with Watering and Gathering for a self-running farm. Top workers: Dandilord (Lv 8), Lyleen (Lv 7), Ophydia (Lv 7).
- Generating Electricity: Powers electric machines, like the electric versions of crafting and processing stations. Top workers: Orserk (Lv 8), Solmora Lux (Lv 6), Dynamoff (Lv 6).
- Handiwork: Speeds up crafting at workbenches and assembly lines. One of the most useful jobs in any base. Top workers: Solenne (Lv 8), Selyne (Lv 7), Splatterina (Lv 6).
- Gathering: Harvests crops from plantations and collects resources like berries. Top workers: Jetragon (Lv 8), Starryon Primo (Lv 7), Hartalis (Lv 7).
- Lumbering: Chops trees and works the logging site, giving you a steady supply of wood. Top workers: Celesdir Noct (Lv 8), Celesdir (Lv 7), Hartalis (Lv 7).
- Mining: Breaks stone and ore nodes and works mining sites for stone, ore and coal. Top workers: Aegidron (Lv 8), Blazamut (Lv 7), Blazamut Ryu (Lv 7).
- Medicine Production: Works the medicine workbench to craft medicines and other remedies. Top workers: Silvance (Lv 8), Bellanoir Libero (Lv 7), Lyleen Noct (Lv 7).
- Cooling: Keeps cold storage cold so food lasts longer, and works cooling-based stations. Top workers: Bastigor (Lv 8), Frostallion (Lv 7), Univolt Cryst (Lv 6).
- Transporting: Carries dropped items to storage. Without it, materials pile up on the ground. Top workers: Knocklem (Lv 7), Knocklem Ignis (Lv 7), Wumpo (Lv 6).
- Farming: Produces ranch items when assigned to a Ranch, such as Wool from Lamball or Eggs from Chikipi. Top workers: Dumud Gild (Lv 4), Sibelyx Primo (Lv 4), Beegarde (Lv 3).
The best all-rounders
If you'd rather have fewer Pals covering more jobs, these have the most combined work levels in the Paldeck: Dandilord, Silvance, Renjishi, Dualith and Dualith Noct.
A simple starter layout
- Start with Handiwork and Transporting. They speed up almost everything else you do.
- Add Mining and Lumbering once you build stone and logging sites, so building materials keep flowing.
- Set up a farm with Planting, Watering and Gathering so your Pals feed themselves.
- Bring in Kindling for cooking and smelting, then Generating Electricity and Cooling as you unlock those stations.
Breeding better workers
Higher-level workers are often rarer, stronger Pals. If you can't catch one, you can usually breed it. The breeding guide explains how, and the breeding calculator plans the route from the Pals you already have.
